One page and a half that changes everything.

The US Iran peace deal could see daylight sooner than expected.

Vice President JD Vance says President Donald Trump might drop the preliminary agreement before Friday’s formal signing ceremony in Geneva.

The document is short, about a page and a half, and Vance calls it very general.

But its impact is anything but small.

The memorandum of understanding was signed electronically by Trump, Vance, and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

Trump confirmed the signing while attending the G7 summit in France, telling reporters he was very happy it was done.

Senior US officials briefed that the Strait of Hormuz would reopen on Friday, the same day the deal gets inked properly.

Ships loaded with oil are already starting to move, Trump claimed on social media.

What does the MOU actually say?

Vance told Fox News the first paragraph commits Iran to regional peace and stability.

That includes stopping the funding of what he called terrorist organisations.

Most importantly, he said, there will be a verifiable commitment that Iran will not build a nuclear weapon.

Technical talks on Iran’s nuclear programme are expected to start this week.

Any sanctions relief or release of frozen assets will depend on Iran meeting its obligations under the deal.

The agreement extends a Ceasefire for another 60 days.

During that window, both sides will negotiate the details of a final agreement.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, whose country played mediator, announced the breakthrough.

He said it included the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon.

But not everyone is celebrating the same way.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made it clear that Israeli forces would remain in security zones in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza as long as necessary.

He also said Iran would not be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons, deal or no deal.

Hezbollah fired missiles and drones at Israeli forces shortly after the ceasefire was announced.

Lebanese media reported a deadly Israeli strike on a car in the south, the first since the peace framework emerged.

Iran’s state TV framed the deal as a victory.

Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi confirmed the end of military operations.

He said Qatari mediators held nearly 14 to 15 hours of lengthy talks in Tehran to reach the initial agreement.

Iran’s top military command said the US and Israel had no option but to accept defeat and surrender.

Yet Iran’s foreign ministry struck a more cautious tone.

It said Tehran still held deep mistrust of the US and described the agreement as merely a step towards reducing tensions.

G7 allies are eager to discuss the deal with Trump.

The UK and France had been leading plans for a defensive mission to protect vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump said he did not think the US would need much help ensuring free passage of shipping.

But he added it was not a bad idea to have a ship or two from other countries in the strategic waterway.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun welcomed the announcement.

He said he looked forward to the understandings translating into practical steps that end the cycle of violence for good.

The world is watching to see if a page and a half can end a war that revealed the limits of US dominance.

Friday cannot come fast enough.
