The King’s nephew has married an NHS nurse in a quiet village church while the public cheered and the bells rang out across Gloucestershire.

Peter Phillips, son of Princess Anne, tied the knot with Harriet Sperling on Saturday at All Saints Church in Kemble. The King and Queen were there. The Prince and Princess of Wales arrived together. Zara and Mike Tindall came. The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh showed up. Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice walked in with their husbands. The royal family turned a rural village into the center of the country for one afternoon.

Sperling arrived in a white gown with a tiara and a veil, her three bridesmaids walking behind her. Two of them were Phillips’ daughters from his first marriage, Savannah and Isla. The third was Sperling’s teenage daughter Georgina. A blended family walking into a new chapter together.

Crowds lined the streets behind metal barriers. They had traveled from all over. Some came from as far as the Philippines just to catch a glimpse. When Prince William and Catherine stepped out of the car, the noise swelled. When the King and Queen arrived, there were cheers. When the bride appeared, someone shouted hip hip hooray. The village had been preparing for this for months. Litter picks. Bell ringing practice. Fresh flowers. The whole community leaned in.

Phillips and Sperling began dating in 2024 after his split from his first wife Autumn Kelly. Their engagement was announced last August. He is 48 years old and 19th in line to the throne. She works for the NHS. This was not a grand royal affair with carriages and trumpets. It was a village wedding with family, friends, and a bride who spends her days caring for patients.

The wedding fell on the same day as the Epsom Derby. The King and Queen were due to leave the ceremony and head straight to the racecourse. Crown and duty wait for no one. But for a few hours in a small Gloucestershire church, the royals were just family watching one of their own marry the woman he loves.
