She was 15 when two teenage boys raped her in an underpass by the River Avon in Fordingbridge, Hampshire. She had gone to meet one of them for the first time. He had started a relationship with her on Snapchat. It was November 2024. What happened next was filmed on their phones and later shared online.

The same boys attacked another girl in a field in January 2025. A third boy, now 14, was convicted for his role in that second assault. The rapes were recorded. The footage was circulated. The evidence was overwhelming.

On Thursday at Southampton Crown Court, Judge Nicholas Rowland sentenced them. He stressed the seriousness of the crimes. He said the filming made it even more serious. Then he spared them jail. He said he wanted to avoid criminalising very young boys. He praised how they behaved during the trial.

The girl who survived the first attack has now spoken exclusively to the BBC. She said the decision hit her like a rock straight in the face. It almost made it seem as if what the boys did was not okay but it was okay in the eyes of the law because they were still children.

She sat through the trial. She relived everything. She watched the evidence play back. All of it to hear a judge say they did not need to go to prison. She described spiraling after the attack. She spoke up because she was losing herself and needed help she did not know how to ask for.

The attorney general is now reviewing the sentence. There are 28 days to decide whether to send it to the Court of Appeal. Cabinet minister Darren Jones says he expects a faster decision. He said the girls deserve justice. So do their families. So do other girls put in that position.

The girl’s mother said her world stopped when she found out. She appealed directly to the prime minister. If it was your daughter, would you be happy. Her partner said he felt physically sick in court. The perpetrators got away scot-free while the victims suffer.

The boys received youth rehabilitation orders with intensive supervision. No prison time. Reform UK MP Robert Jenrick said justice had not been done. Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch said the Crime could hardly be graver yet the punishment was no punishment at all. The Children’s Commissioner said she was deeply concerned.

The government says the law officers are urgently reviewing the case. The girl who spoke out is still trying to pull her life together while it feels like it is falling apart.
