Iran says it targeted an American base after fresh US strikes hit southern Iran and the Ceasefire that was barely breathing is now gasping.
The IRGC confirmed it launched an attack on a US air base in the early hours of Thursday morning. It did not say where. Kuwait knew exactly where. Kuwaiti forces intercepted hostile missile and drone threats and the US military confirmed Iran fired a ballistic missile toward the country. Whether it was aimed at the American base or just at Kuwait itself is still unclear. What is clear is that the war just lurched closer to the Gulf states.

The whole thing started hours earlier when the US shot down Iranian drones over the Strait of Hormuz and struck a military site in Bandar Abbas. That is the second time in three days. Monday was missile sites and boats placing mines. Wednesday was something else entirely. The US calls these strikes measured, purely defensive, and intended to maintain the ceasefire. Bombing a country twice in three days and calling it restraint is a very specific kind of logic.
Iran sees it differently. Foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baqai called the strikes a ceasefire violation. He said Iran will take all necessary measures to defend its national sovereignty. Then the IRGC fired a ballistic missile at Kuwait. The cycle is spinning faster than the diplomats can talk.
Kuwait’s foreign ministry strongly condemned what it called criminal Iranian attacks on its territory. A Gulf nation that hosts US forces is now directly in the line of fire. The war that started on February 28 with massive American and Israeli strikes on Iran is bleeding past every border drawn on the map.
The US also dropped fresh sanctions on the Iranian body collecting fees from ships trying to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called it the Iranian military’s latest attempt to extort global maritime trade. Iran says it is just collecting fees for navigational services. Either way, one fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas is still stuck behind a geopolitical wall.
Trump told his cabinet on Wednesday that Iran is negotiating on fumes. He said maybe we have to go back and finish it, maybe we do not. The weekend optimism about a deal being largely negotiated has evaporated. By Wednesday, he was not satisfied. Tehran says it is very much intent on reaching an agreement. The White House says an Iranian state TV report about a draft deal is a complete fabrication.
Both sides say they want peace. Both sides keep bombing each other. The talks continue. So do the strikes.
