Eduardo Camavinga is not going to the World Cup. Didier Deschamps looked at a midfielder who has won two Champions League titles with Real Madrid and decided there was no room for him. The explanation was blunt. His season. A few injuries. And the competition in that France squad which is brutally deep.
Camavinga has made 29 appearances for France since his debut in 2020. He came off the bench in a 2-0 friendly win over Colombia in March. He has been a regular in the national team setup for years. None of that saved him. Deschamps did not question his potential or what he is capable of. He simply said the math did not work.

The words that will sting most are the ones Deschamps added at the end. Camavinga is entitled to be angry with me. I understand that. A World Cup winning manager telling a 23 year old he has every right to be furious. That is respect and coldness wrapped in the same sentence.
Real Madrid finished the season without a trophy for the second straight year. Camavinga made 43 appearances. The club struggled. The individual form dipped. Injuries interrupted his rhythm. Deschamps saw all of it and made the hardest call a manager can make. Leaving out a player he knows is good enough but could not fit.

Twenty nine caps. Not enough for a seat on the plane. France’s midfield is so stacked that a Real Madrid regular cannot get in. That is the standard Deschamps has set.
