The FRSC warns motorists against indiscriminate parking in a furious new crackdown that threatens immediate prosecution for anyone blocking highways in Ondo State.
The Federal Road Safety Corps has had enough of the reckless behavior. State Sector Commander Dr. Samuel Ibitoye delivered the blunt message during a community social responsibilities programme held Thursday at the Shasha area of Akure. He made it painfully clear that the days of parking anywhere without consequences are over.
The two-day programme is part of a national management drive to ensure smooth traffic on highways across the country. Ibitoye explained that the exercise targets ordinary people motorists and all road users. The goal is to make a real impact on road usage. The corps is not just out to book and sanction offenders.
Officers have been physically removing broken vehicles from the road. They are filling potholes that create danger for drivers. They are cutting down trees that cause shade obstruction on highways. They are even clearing gutters for the free flow of water. The message is simple. The FRSC wants to save lives not just punish people.
The FRSC warns motorists against indiscriminate parking and vows to prosecute offenders
Ibitoye did not mince his words at all. He appealed directly to motorists who have a habit of parking indiscriminately on highways to desist immediately or face prosecution. The warning carries serious weight. The corps is clearly fed up with the preventable crashes caused by wrongful parking.
He stressed that the end point of all these efforts is to reduce crashes drastically. They want to allow free traffic flow. They want Nigerians to know that FRSC is out there to genuinely care for them. The initiative has already won praise. Mr. Kolade Ogundare a driver on the route commended the FRSC for the impactful initiative. He called for more such exercises on all highways.
